The recent heatwave that has broken numerous temperature records in the southwestern United States is expected to expand over the weekend and peak early next week in the Northeast. Cities on the East Coast, including Baltimore and Washington, D.C., can expect temperatures of up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Although these levels may not necessarily set new records as they did in Las Vegas and other western cities last week, they remain dangerous. Richard Bann, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, emphasizes the peril of high daytime temperatures that barely cool off at night. This can be particularly stressful and pose health risks for people who do not have adequate cooling or are not sufficiently hydrated. A regional forecast for the upcoming weekend is as follows: In the western United States, people are set for a brief respite after a week of extreme temperatures that set new records in over 50 cities in California and Nevada. Last week, Las Vegas recorded its highest temperature ever: an astonishing 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It is suspected that the heat may have already caused over 100 deaths in the West this month, although each individual cause of death has yet to be investigated. For the coming days, a decrease in temperatures is expected in the West. In Las Vegas, the highest temperatures are expected to drop to around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Salt Lake City will experience highs in the 90s early next week, with nighttime temperatures falling into the 70s.
