Heathrow, the significant international hub in the west of London, once again achieved impressive passenger numbers in September, continuing its successful summer story. Recent figures show that with 7.3 million passengers, a new record for September was set, after more than 7 million passengers used the airport last year. This represents an increase of over 200,000 passengers compared to the same month of the previous year. Aviation analysts see these remarkable numbers as a potential incentive for the airport management to revive plans for a third runway, which have been officially 'under review' since the pandemic. The faster-than-expected recovery in passenger numbers is likely to facilitate planning, especially since all pandemic-related travel restrictions were lifted last year. The start of autumn also seems to have not lost any momentum: More than 30 million travelers passed through Heathrow between June and September, resulting in another record – on September 2nd, over 140,500 passengers landed, the busiest arrival day in the airport's history. Additionally, Heathrow announced that the Georgian capital Tbilisi will reappear on the flight route map next summer, thanks to the resumption of direct connections by British Airways after a ten-year hiatus. According to Thomas Woldbye, the CEO of Heathrow, the airport concludes a 'super summer' with over 30 million passengers. The accolades as the 'most connected airport' and 'best airport for retail worldwide' underscore successful partnerships with airlines and retailers.
