Australia's largest home appliance retailer, Harvey Norman, along with one of its subsidiaries, is facing a class-action lawsuit filed by the firm Echo Law on behalf of disgruntled consumers. The lawsuit concerns allegedly deficient warranties that were sold to consumers as useless or of little value, as they are already protected for free by Australian consumer law. The legal action targets consumers who purchased extended warranties between September 17, 2018, and September 17, 2024. According to Echo Law, customers who paid for the 'product care' service are entitled to compensation. Harvey Norman stated that both the company and the affected entity have complied with all relevant laws at all times and will vigorously defend against the lawsuit. Echo Law did not provide an immediate response to Reuters regarding the number of consumers represented and the compensation amount sought.
