Evacuation Wave in Kharkiv: Increase in Russian Offensive Forces Thousands to Flee

Eulerpool News·

Amid a new wave of offensive military maneuvers by Russian armed forces, an increasing number of residents from the eastern Ukrainian border region of Kharkiv are being forced to leave their homes. In the last 48 hours, about 4,000 people have departed the area, according to Oleh Synjehubow, the Governor of Kharkiv, who reported this on Sunday. The evacuation was a response to the intensified combat actions in this strategically significant part of Ukraine. The regional leadership is striving to provide accommodations for the evacuees. Many have already found refuge with relatives and friends. Social media shared images of residents waiting at meeting points for the organized evacuation with their belongings and pets. This latest development in the war between Russia and Ukraine, now over two years long, comes at a time when international support appeared to falter intermittently. Reports agree that on the night of Friday, Russian forces launched a major offensive near the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have captured several border villages near the town of Vovchansk. Additionally, Moscow announced the conquest of four more settlements on Sunday. The current events mark a serious escalation of tensions in an area already tormented by prolonged hostile actions, leading to a further humanitarian crisis situation for the affected civilian population.
