America PAC, one of the most ambitious and well-financed groups supporting former US President Donald J. Trump, changed its strategy in the key states of Arizona and Nevada just seven weeks before Election Day. The Super PAC, founded by billionaire Elon Musk, ended its collaboration with the canvassing firm originally contracted to knock on hundreds of thousands of doors and mobilize Republican voters. The leadership of the Super PAC decided in recent days to replace this firm, the September Group. Approximately 300 paid canvassers were deployed by America PAC in these states. However, the PAC felt that the group was not reaching enough voters quickly enough. Now, with the new hires, they hope to reach more households and thus support Mr. Trump in the long term. The extreme summer conditions in Arizona and Nevada make the work of canvassers challenging. The firm had knocked on around 250,000 doors in Arizona and 150,000 in Nevada during its three-week stint. America PAC plans to rehire as many canvassers as possible, although it is unclear how many will stay. Some canvassers in Nevada are already planning to work for another candidate in the state, Sam Brown, the Republican Senate candidate. Time is short, as Arizona begins early voting on October 9, and Nevada allows voting starting October 19. In recent days, PAC canvassers have not worked in both states as the group reorganized its field structure. Neither America PAC nor the September Group wanted to comment on the decision. This shift is significant because external groups like Musk's PAC play an unusually important role in the Trump campaign. The Trump campaign is leveraging a recent Federal Election Commission ruling that allows closer collaboration with Super PACs. Every tactical change is closely watched by Republican insiders, particularly those concerned about the risks in Trump's voter mobilization plan. The latest change follows a major upheaval at the Super PAC over the summer when America PAC dropped the company In Field Strategies. After a few weeks of pause, the PAC began hiring new organizers and reinvesting large sums. According to federal filings, $36 million was spent last month alone to support Republicans. Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, is deeply involved in the operations of the Super PAC and plans to donate up to $180 million to support the Trump campaign. It is unclear whether he played a direct role in the decision in Arizona and Nevada. However, his top advisor recently visited the field operation in Nevada on site.
