Elon Musk is making headlines again: Over the weekend, he posted a video on the social media platform X that portrays U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in a highly unfavorable light. In Harris' first major campaign spot, her purported voice can be heard referring to herself as 'the ultimate diversity hire' and admitting to having 'absolutely no idea how to run the country.' The voice is unmistakably Harris's – but it is a digital manipulation, most likely created using an AI tool. X prohibits its users from uploading media that has been 'misleadingly altered' and that 'is likely to cause widespread confusion in public affairs.' However, these rules do not seem to apply to Musk himself. The original creator of the video labeled it as a parody and garnered 22,000 views. Musk, however, did not include such a clarification when he shared the video. It has since been viewed over 128 million times. This development once again puts Musk in the spotlight as one of the worst spreaders of misinformation on the platform.
