The diplomatic relations between Israel and Ireland are reaching a new low point after Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the closure of the Israeli embassy in Dublin. The reason cited is the "extremely anti-Israeli policies" of the Irish government, such as its recognition of a Palestinian state and support for legal actions against Israel. This decision is reflected in the recall of the Israeli ambassador, which already took place in May after Ireland's recognition of a Palestinian state.
The Irish government, however, defends its stance. Prime Minister Simon Harris expressed regret over Israel's decision and disputed the portrayal of Ireland as being against Israel. Instead, he emphasized Ireland's pro-peace position and the pursuit of a two-state solution to enable peaceful coexistence for both Israel and Palestine.
Ireland's Foreign Minister Micheal Martin, in turn, clarified that the decision on possible genocide allegations is reserved for the International Court of Justice. Nevertheless, he condemned the Hamas attacks and the situation in Gaza as a massive violation of international humanitarian law.
Amid these tensions, the Israeli Foreign Ministry also announced the opening of a new embassy in Moldova, indicating that Israel is expanding its diplomatic relations in other regions. Modern Financial Markets Data
