CSU Calls for "Agenda 2030" for Economic Revitalization

In an appeal for comprehensive economic revitalization, CSU leader Markus Söder has brought into play an "Agenda 2030" to lead Germany's economy out of the current stagnation. Söder criticized the current economic situation as disastrous and sounded the alarm about the trend towards a downturn. In doing so, he drew a bleak balance and did not shy away from accusations against the federal government, which he blamed for resignation and a lack of a plan. A palpable disappointment resonated in Söder's words as he spoke of a "depressive" state that would be hanging over German economic policy. The government was urged by the Union to thoroughly overhaul its growth policy and develop a proactive strategy. Growth and relief measures are at the heart of Söder's demands. He advocated for incentives through a sophisticated concept of tax relief. His focus was on an attractive design of degressive depreciation, capping the solidarity surcharge, and reducing corporate taxes. An offensive in labor market policy, Söder sees in the redesign of overtime regulations, with a move towards tax-free additional working hours. The CSU leader emphasized the necessity not to define Germany purely as a part-time and home office country, but to strengthen the basis for lasting prosperity through a broader work performance. According to Söder, the agricultural segment, particularly family-run businesses, should not be neglected and should be supported through targeted offers. To compensate for expenses, Söder suggested restructuring citizen's income towards welfare, pointing out potential savings that would fit into his vision of economic stimulation. Additionally, he referred to the Heating Act, the consequences of which would be counterproductive to the intended climate protection. His alternative: long-term lower energy prices and less bureaucracy for the expansion of renewable energies. These demands are in line with the "Agenda 2030" articulated last year by CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann, which aims to revive the competitiveness of the German economy on an international level.
