The British streaming landscape receives a remarkable enhancement with the introduction of Amazon Fire TVs: The new streaming service Freely, supported by the British broadcasting giants BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5, will soon be available on the popular televisions of the US technology company. This groundbreaking agreement marks a significant advancement in the collaboration between the British broadcasters and a global technology icon. With the launch of Freely, an initiative of the joint venture Everyone TV, viewers will be enabled to consume both live television and on-demand content at no additional cost—provided the respective smart TVs integrate this service. Through implementation on Amazon Fire TVs, Freely's extensive offering now reaches a broader audience, also meeting the British legislation’s requirements to provide programs for public benefit. Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, emphasizes the importance of the deal, calling it an unprecedented step to sustainably secure the availability of Freely and thus guarantee access to free television for British viewers in the long term. Launched in April, Freely is the first collaboration of all four British public service broadcasters in establishing a streaming service to keep live TV relevant in the digital age. With an impressive catalog of 70,000 hours of on-demand content, Freely surpasses even established platforms like Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV, as data from Ampere Analysis show. Moreover, Everyone TV has signed a contract with TV manufacturer TCL, which aims to integrate Freely into the new smart TV models of 2024, further increasing the service's reach.
