The Italian automotive supplier Brembo has signed an agreement to acquire Öhlins Racing, a leading company in high-performance suspension technology, for 405 million US dollars (approximately 370.59 million euros). This acquisition represents a strategic move to further strengthen Brembo's offerings in the premium segment, motorsport, and aftermarket. Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Upplands Väsby, Sweden, Öhlins Racing is known for its precisely engineered suspension products. With around 500 employees, the company operates two production facilities in Sweden and Thailand, as well as research and development centers in the USA, Germany, Thailand, and Sweden. The product portfolio includes shock absorbers, front forks, steering dampers, as well as software and accessories. Öhlins is also present in significant motorsport championships, including MotoGP, Formula 1, Superbike World Championship, and NASCAR. For the fiscal year 2024, revenue of roughly 144 million US dollars is expected, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 21% to 22%. Öhlins' commitment to mechatronic suspension technology complements Brembo's vision to offer solutions for future mobility. Matteo Tiraboschi, Executive Chairman of Brembo, expressed enthusiasm for the acquisition: "Öhlins is a welcome addition to Brembo, with a strong brand and an excellent reputation both on the road and on the track. This acquisition is an important step in our strategy to offer integrated intelligent solutions for our customers." This deal marks the largest acquisition in Brembo's history. Previously, the company expanded its two-wheeler business through the acquisition of SBS Friction in Denmark and J.Juan in Spain, as well as by announcing a new production site in Thailand for motorcycle braking systems. The completion of the Öhlins Racing acquisition is still subject to regulatory approvals and is expected by early 2025.
