The American aerospace giant Boeing is once again in the spotlight after its aircraft deliveries declined for the fourth consecutive month. Particularly affected by the impact of a protracted labor strike, the company registered only 33 deliveries in September, marking the worst monthly record since June. Negotiations with the International Association of Machinists failed last month, leading to 33,000 employees downing tools. This resulted in a temporary halt in the production of key models like the 737, 767, and 777 in Washington, while the 787s continue to be manufactured in South Carolina. Additionally, Boeing had already reduced the production of its flagship model 737 in advance to ensure quality and avoid past incidents. Despite a gross backlog of 315 new orders for the year so far, the net number fell to only 121 units due to cancellations and rebookings. A glance at competitor Airbus presents a stark contrast: the European rival significantly outperformed Boeing in September with 50 aircraft delivered and an impressive 235 new gross orders. This puts Airbus far ahead of Boeing for the year to date, with 71% more units delivered. Despite an overarching decline in demand in the aircraft sector, Airbus managed to increase its deliveries compared to the previous year, while Boeing is grappling with delivery issues and unpleasant market conditions. Given its stable performance and solid financial indicators, Airbus currently appears to be the more attractive investment opportunity.
