Bayer Leverkusen had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion on Saturday, despite taking the lead twice. Forward Victor Boniface was particularly in the spotlight, returning to the pitch after a car accident last week and scoring a goal. With a bandaged hand, Boniface netted in the 30th minute following an assist from Jeremie Frimpong to open the scoring. The striker had missed the Champions League match against Brest after being unable to play a day after his winning goal against Eintracht Frankfurt, due to minor injuries from the accident. Boniface had the chance to increase his goal tally to seven in the 60th minute, but Bremen goalkeeper Michael Zetterer thwarted it with a brilliant save. Instead, Marvin Duksch equalized for Bremen 14 minutes later with a header. However, Werder's celebration was short-lived: three minutes later, a mishap by Felix Agu resulted in an own goal. But Romano Schmid managed to equalize with a late goal in the 90th minute, securing a point for Bremen. After this result, Leverkusen stands in third place with 15 points, two points behind Bayern Munich, who are set to face VfL Bochum on Sunday. RB Leipzig leads the table with 20 points following a 3-1 victory over Freiburg.
