Augsburg's double strike puts Borussia Dortmund under pressure

Borussia Dortmund must accept a bitter 1-2 defeat after a turbulent match against Augsburg and now faces a challenging situation after two lost games within five days. In Augsburg, it was the French player Alexis Claude-Maurice who complicated matters for Dortmund with two goals. The current Bundesliga seventh-place team had arrived with high expectations, following a 2-5 defeat in the Champions League against Real Madrid on Tuesday — despite having a 2-0 lead. The away crisis continues for the Black and Yellows, who have yet to secure an away win this Bundesliga season. With 13 points, the team led by coach Nuri Sahin, who is in his first season on the sidelines, remains in seventh place. The recent results increase the pressure on Sahin, whose decision to relinquish a 2-0 lead against Real and concede five goals has already been criticized. While RB Leipzig temporarily takes the top position with 20 points after a 3-1 home win against Freiburg, Bayern Munich remains in second place with 17 points after an upcoming match against VfL Bochum. Dortmund started promisingly, as Donyell Malen scored in the fourth minute following a quick counterattack. However, Dortmund's attack noticeably diminished afterward. The equalizer came rather unexpectedly in the 25th minute when Claude-Maurice aimed for the goal from 25 meters without much resistance. Just five minutes after the break, he scored the winning goal by curling the ball flat into the corner from the edge of the box. Adding insult to injury, Dortmund had to accept a red card against Almugera Kabar shortly before the end, who was sent off with a second yellow card during his league debut. Injuries also forced the substitutions of Waldemar Anton and Julian Ryerson. Next week, Borussia faces another match against VfL Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal.
