Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced plans to invest "hundreds of billions" in artificial intelligence to consolidate the company's leading position in the industry. He clarified that 2025 would be a decisive year: "We have 48 weeks to get AI on the right track.

The announcement followed strong quarterly figures. Meta increased its revenue by 21 percent to $48.4 billion, while net profit climbed by almost 50 percent to $20.8 billion. The stock rose by more than 2 percent in after-hours trading – a sign of confidence in the core digital advertising business.

Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta wanted to be at the forefront of the industry with its open-source LLama models and the AI chatbot with 700 million active users. At the same time, he dismissed concerns about the progress of the Chinese start-up DeepSeek, which had led to massive stock losses at Nvidia: "There will be a global open-source standard – and it is crucial that it is American.

However, Meta is under pressure to justify its multi-billion dollar investments. Capital costs are expected to range between 60 and 65 billion dollars by 2025. Zuckerberg announced plans to unlock new revenue streams, including monetizing AI-generated recommendations for advertisers. Additionally, the company aims to develop its own AI chips to reduce computing costs.

After the Year of Efficiency 2023 comes the Year of Intensity for Meta in 2025," said Forrester analyst Mike Proulx. "The recent advances by DeepSeek could further increase this pressure.

At the same time, Zuckerberg is striving for closer cooperation with the US government. He praised the new Trump administration for its economic policy course: "We now have a government that is proud of our leading companies, prioritizes American technology, and defends our values.

At the same time, it was announced that Meta is settling a lawsuit from Donald Trump with a payment of 25 million dollars. The former president had sued the company for his temporary ban on the Facebook and Instagram platforms.
