Siemens supports Intel in billion-dollar project: The Munich technology company enters into a strategic partnership with the US chip giant. The goal is to convert Intel factories to an innovative production technology that enables smaller and more efficient chips. The collaboration is planned for three years and is primarily aimed at increasing energy efficiency in the factories. Both companies announced this on Monday.

A key element in this transition is EUV lithography, which uses ultraviolet radiation and thus forms the basis for modern chip production. In order to remain competitive with Taiwanese market leader TSMC, Intel is investing billions in the implementation of this technology. It is important to the company that the transition is carried out in compliance with ecological standards.

Keyvan Esfarjani, responsible for the operational business at Intel, emphasized: "We have big expansion plans, but we want to ensure that we meet our environmental commitments." This transition to a more environmentally friendly production is an important step towards net-zero emissions.

Siemens, as a partner of Intel, hopes to gain valuable learning effects through the collaboration that can be transferred to other areas. Cedrik Neike, CEO of the Industrial Automation Division Digital Industries, emphasizes: "Other industries are also moving in this direction. Semiconductors are the pioneers who are already looking into this."

Neike compares the cooperation with Intel to the collaboration between Siemens and the Stuttgart-based automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. It revolves around the transition from combustion engines to electric motors.

The Siemens stock records an increase of 0.67 percent at 157.04 euros via XETRA exchange. However, the Intel stock temporarily drops by 4.37 percent to 41.83 US dollars on the NASDAQ.
