The German Post has announced that the prices for packages weighing more than 20 kilograms will increase. This change is being implemented as part of new transport regulations, which require such packages to be carried either by two people or with the help of appropriate technical aids.

The Post is also introducing a new weight category for private customers. Previously, there were categories up to two kilograms, five kilograms, ten kilograms, and 31.5 kilograms. With the new categorization, a product up to 20 kilograms will be introduced, which will cost 18.99 euros. Previously, customers had to pay the price for the heaviest package, which was 19.99 euros, for packages between 10 and 20 kilograms. This price will now be increased to 23.99 euros. The upper limit remains at 31.5 kilograms.

The changes have been effective since Friday and also apply to the newly named "merchandise shipments". The maximum weight for these shipments has been increased from one kilogram to two kilograms. Shipments over one kilogram now cost an additional surcharge of 85 cents in addition to the postage of 2.55 euros.

The postal reform, which led to these adjustments, will allow for longer letter delivery times in the future and aims to improve working conditions in the industry. The previous postal law is mostly from the 1990s and has been adjusted to current developments such as declining letter volumes and increased strain in parcel delivery.

With these measures, Deutsche Post is responding to the changing requirements in parcel shipping and the necessity to optimize work processes within the company. The price adjustments reflect the additional expenses required by the new regulations.
