Kamala Harris appears on Fox News: Strategic move in the race against Trump
Kamala Harris uses a strategic interview on Fox News to position herself as an independent and new leader in the tight presidential race against Donald Trump.
Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the USA, stated in her first extensive interview on the conservative broadcaster Fox News that her presidency "will not be a continuation" of Joe Biden's term. This statement is intended to appeal particularly to conservative voters and independents as the presidential race against Donald Trump becomes increasingly tighter.
In a heated conversation with Bret Baier, Harris emphasized: "My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden's, and like every new president, I will bring my life experiences, professional experiences, and fresh ideas." With these words, she consciously distances herself from the current administration and presents herself as a representative of a new generation of leaders.
The interview took place amid intense efforts to gain the trust of independent voters and disaffected Republicans. Harris avoided a direct answer to the question of Biden's possible cognitive decline and instead shifted the conversation to Trump's suitability: "The President of the United States should be able to handle criticism without wanting to imprison people for expressing their opinions.
These appearances on Fox News are part of a broader campaign aimed at appearing more authentic and less scripted. Party leaders previously expressed concerns that Harris' appearances were too formulaic, highlighting the new strategy to improve her public perception.
The reactions to the interview were mixed. The Trump campaign described Harris's appearance as a "total, unrestrained fiasco" and criticized her positions on immigration as well as her distancing from Biden. Despite these attacks, the latest poll shows Harris with a narrow lead over Trump nationally, while a virtual tie exists in key swing states.
Beside the interview on Fox News, Harris has taken additional measures to increase her presence. She appeared in Bucks County, Pennsylvania on Tuesday and directly addressed independent voters disappointed by Trump. In addition, she plans to appear on popular platforms like Joe Rogan's podcast to reach a broader audience.
As the campaign intensifies in its final stages and the election date in November approaches, it remains to be seen how Harris' new approaches will affect the final voting results. Her efforts to differentiate herself from Biden while appealing to a broad electorate present her with a difficult challenge in an unpredictable and fiercely contested race.
