The energy company RWE has been awarded contracts for two areas in the North Sea in the latest offshore wind energy auction by the Federal Network Agency. The areas N-9.1 and N-9.2, which are each intended to host offshore wind farms with a capacity of 2 gigawatts, are located approximately 110 and 115 kilometers northwest of the island of Borkum at the border to the Dutch economic zone.

RWE will pay a total auction price of 250 million euros for the two areas. The company announced that it would examine the possibility of developing the projects jointly with the French company Totalenergies. Investment decisions for the areas are expected to be made by 2027 and 2028, so construction at sea could begin around 2029 and 2030. Full commissioning of the wind farms is planned for 2031 and 2032.

The news led to an increase in the RWE share price by up to 2.04 percent to 32.47 euros via XETRA.
