Walmart Cuts Hundreds of Administrative Jobs and Asks Employees to Relocate to Major Corporate Headquarters, Wall Street Journal Reports, Citing Sources Familiar with the Matter.

Employees of small offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto are therefore expected to relocate to central hubs such as the company headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, as well as to Hoboken, New Jersey, or Northern California. Remote work will continue to be partially allowed, as long as employees spend the majority of their time in the office.

Walmart, the largest employer in the USA with 1.6 million workers, most of whom work in stores and warehouses, employs tens of thousands of administrative staff nationwide. Like many other companies, Walmart has gradually restricted flexibility for remote work and reduced the number of smaller offices around the country. Last year, the company closed three technology offices and asked some employees to relocate to central corporate locations.

In recent years, Walmart has tried to reduce costs in certain areas while setting priorities in others. Last month, the company announced that it would close all 51 health clinics that it had opened in the past five years. These clinics, often located directly next to the stores, offered basic care services and telemedicine appointments. Last year, Walmart still planned to operate a total of 75 clinics by the end of 2024.

Walmart stated that rising operational costs and a challenging reimbursement environment currently make the healthcare business unprofitable.
