Verdi, the trade union for services, enters tariff negotiations for around 25,000 ground staff of Lufthansa with a clear demand. Salaries for technicians and check-in employees should increase by 12.5 percent, but at least by 500 euros per month. Negotiator Marvin Reschinsky stated on Monday in Frankfurt that there should also be an inflation compensation bonus of 3000 euros. Additionally, a new monthly shift allowance of 3.6 percent of the base salary, along with faster annual salary increases, will also be discussed in the wage round. The first negotiation session is scheduled for January 18th.

Verdi sees workforce stressed despite overcoming Corona slump

Collective agreements for pilots and cabin crew negotiated by different trade unions
The pilots are represented by the Cockpit Association, while the cabin crew is represented by the Independent Flight Attendants Organization (Ufo). Ufo is calling for salary increases of 15 percent in addition to a one-time payment for a longer duration of 18 months. All three trade unions have the ability to largely shut down Lufthansa's flight operations with a strike. The obligation to maintain peace for cabin and ground staff ends at the end of the year.

Verdi aims to eliminate existing differences between East and West Germany

Currently, employees in the East have to work two and a half hours longer for the same salary compared to the West. Additionally, the company should permanently hire apprentice workers and allow employees to choose between higher salary or more vacation days. Lufthansa has not yet responded to these demands. A spokesperson simply stated: "Official discussions will begin on January 18th, and we firmly believe that we will negotiate in a fair and equal manner."

The Lufthansa share temporarily recorded a loss of 1.71 percent to 8.22 euros via XETRA. Investors immediately reacted to the demands of Verdi. The wage negotiations are eagerly awaited as they will have an impact on the future development of the company.
