The US Union UAW does not accept defeat in two Mercedes plants in the state of Alabama and demands a revote. The UAW, which had already achieved success with Volkswagen, recently failed to win over the employees of the Mercedes-Benz Group (formerly Daimler). In a vote, the majority of the employees spoke out against representation by the UAW (United Auto Workers).
The UAW has now applied for a re-vote at the US labor rights authority NLRB (National Labor Relations Board). The union justifies its application with an allegedly illegal approach by the company against the union representation, as reported by the financial service Bloomberg on Friday.
Mercedes-Benz emphasized in a response that the vote was secret and monitored by the NLRB. "We regret that the UAW does not accept this decision," the company stated.
The union recently gained momentum from its success last fall. After a weeks-long strike at the US automakers General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, the UAW was able to secure better working conditions and income increases of roughly 25 percent.
