The U.S. electric car manufacturer Tesla is once again the focus of criticism due to its controversial Autopilot system. The family of a motorcyclist who died in a fatal accident has sued the company after a Tesla Model 3 with activated Autopilot was involved in the crash. This lawsuit could further ignite the discussion about the safety of Tesla's driver assistance systems.

The tragic incident occurred in 2022 when the Tesla Model 3, traveling at a speed of 75-80 miles per hour, collided with the rear of a Harley-Davidson, throwing the rider off the motorcycle and fatally injuring him. The victim's parents accuse Tesla of its driver assistance software and other safety features being "faulty and inadequate." The lawsuit was filed in state court in Salt Lake City, stating that the Tesla driver was "tired" and "not capable of driving as a normal careful driver." It is argued that a cautious driver or a functioning automatic braking system could have prevented the accident.

Tesla, which has previously faced criticism for similar incidents with its Autopilot system, is now once again facing legal consequences. There were fatal accidents in 2016 and 2018 where the Autopilot was activated. In both cases, the families of the victims sued the electric car manufacturer, leading to intense discussions about the safety and marketing strategies of Tesla.

The current lawsuit is expected to further intensify the scrutiny of Tesla's driver assistance systems, including Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD). In particular, Tesla is accused of continuing to market the systems despite being aware of their deficiencies.
