Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, Announces Long-Promised Robotaxi to Be Revealed on August 8th. The announcement came via Musk's online platform X, without further details being shared. It is known that the autonomous vehicle will be based on a new technical platform designed to make production more efficient and cost-effective. Despite Musk's long-standing promises of Teslas' ability to drive autonomously, the current "Autopilot" technology is merely a driver-assist system that requires human intervention. Tesla faces competition from other robotaxi services like Waymo but has opted to forego expensive laser radars and instead relies on cameras. This decision has been a subject of debate among experts.

In an upcoming trial in California, the death of a Tesla driver is being investigated, whose vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier in 2018 with its "Autopilot" engaged. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) attributed the accident to system limitations and the driver's inattention. In the US, Tesla drivers are currently testing an advanced version of "Autopilot" called "Full Self-Driving," which does not make vehicles autonomous. Responsibility remains with the drivers, who have had to intervene in some cases to prevent accidents.

Following the announcement of the robotaxi presentation, Tesla's stock rose by 3.81 percent post-market and eventually closed 4.90 percent higher. Tesla is currently facing a decline in deliveries and increasing competition, especially in China. In the past, Musk has talked about producing a cheaper Tesla car, which is planned to start at the end of 2025. After the introduction of new models, it has taken several years for them to become available.
