Tesla faces competition from other robotaxi services like Waymo but has opted to forego expensive laser radars and instead relies on cameras. In an upcoming trial in California, the death of a Tesla driver is being investigated, whose vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier in 2018 with its "Autopilot" engaged. The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) attributed the accident to system limitations and the driver's inattention. In the US, Tesla drivers are currently testing an advanced version of "Autopilot" called "Full Self-Driving," which does not make vehicles autonomous.
