Venture Global ventures into new dimensions with Plaquemines LNG production

The LNG specialist Venture Global has commenced production at its second facility, Plaquemines LNG, in Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Remarkably, this production milestone was achieved only 30 months after the final investment decision (FID), making Plaquemines LNG, along with the Calcasieu Pass facility, one of the fastest greenfield projects in this field. Once fully operational, Plaquemines LNG could develop into one of the largest LNG facilities worldwide, with an export capacity of about 20 million tons per year (mtpa). Venture Global emphasizes the outstanding commitment of its team, who share the vision of reliably and efficiently delivering low-cost LNG to the world. Mike Sabel, CEO and co-founder of Venture Global, proudly commented on the company's achievements: "Thanks to the dedication of our employees, Venture Global is fulfilling its promise to provide urgently needed LNG to strengthen global energy security." With an investment volume of USD 50 billion, the company plans to further expand its US-based energy projects. This aims not only to create jobs and support local economies but also to stabilize the trade balance and secure critical LNG supplies for allies. Following the FID for phase one in May 2022, phase two was initiated in March 2023. Venture Global's innovative construction method allows for the initiation of LNG production and export even during the ongoing construction of the remaining 36 production trains. This strategy promises a quicker increase in the US LNG supply compared to new market entrants. The additional production from Plaquemines LNG represents a significant geopolitical advantage for the US, particularly during times of a globally strained LNG market and project delays.
