The Greek Coast Guard recovered the bodies of eight migrants off the island of Samos in the Aegean Sea on Monday. Among the victims are six minors and two women. While search and rescue operations are still ongoing, 36 survivors were found in the northern part of Samos. Greece, located at the southeastern edge of the European Union, has long been a preferred entry point into Europe for migrants and refugees from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. In 2015, nearly one million people reached the Greek islands in their quest for safety and a better life. This tragedy once again highlights the dangers and challenges migrants face on their journey to Europe. Despite the uncertain future, many continue to risk the dangerous crossing in the hope of a new life. ![](https://cdn.eulerpool.com/images/data-analytics/better.jpg)
