Takeaways NEW

  • S&P 500 could rise significantly by 2025, although some skeptics fear a recession.
  • Investment firms show optimistic forecasts for 2025, inspired by potential economic policy easings.
The major investment houses, whether brokerages, investment funds, ETFs, or hedge funds, have largely set their investment strategies for the year 2025. After two highly successful years in the stock markets, optimistic forecasts dominate the field. A key driver of this confidence: The idea of low tax rates and relaxed regulations, inspired by Trump. The anticipated easing of antitrust laws, which facilitates mergers and acquisitions, could benefit both shareholders and the companies themselves. In addition, the growing importance of artificial intelligence as a potential growth engine for corporate profits is noted. The economic environment is considered relatively favorable. Inflation has eased after its peak in 2022, interest rates have fallen, and oil prices are below the highs of 2022. Nevertheless, West Texas Intermediate, the benchmark oil of the US, has shown an increase of 15% since its low point in December. Forecasts for the S&P 500 Index indicate a value of about 6,600 by the end of 2025, which corresponds to a 10% increase from the 2024 closing level of 5,881.63. The index in 2024 was driven by significant gains from companies like Palantir Technologies, Vistra Energy, and Nvidia. Interestingly, Oppenheimer Investment Management even sees the index at 7,100 points, which would represent an even more impressive growth of 18.4%. However, there are also skeptical voices: BCA Research forecasts a decline of 26%, fearing a recession. Such differing assessments underscore the risks and uncertainties of the market, although optimistic investors believe that the Fed's monetary easing and the growth strategies from Trump's economic plans could unleash positive forces. A certain degree of uncertainty remains, as the economic and financial environment can take unpredictable turns. Looking back, the S&P 500 has only experienced seven years of declines since 1999, fueling the optimism of many market participants.
