Canada's Finance Minister has submitted her resignation, citing disagreements with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding the handling of upcoming economic challenges posed by the Trump administration. Chrystia Freeland, who also serves as the country's Deputy Prime Minister, stated that Trudeau informed her on Friday that he no longer saw her in the role of Finance Minister and instead had another cabinet position in mind for her. In recent weeks, there have been frequent differences over which strategy would be best for Canada. In a letter to Trudeau, which she published on the social media platform X, Freeland described the threat from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canadian imports as a "serious challenge." She emphasized that in light of this threat, it is important to "maintain our financial reserves to be prepared for a possible tariff war" and to refrain from "costly political gimmicks.
