The renowned political reporter Olivia Nuzzi from New York Magazine has been temporarily suspended after disclosing a personal relationship with former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This disclosure was made in a statement by the magazine on Thursday evening. Nuzzi admitted to having entered into a relationship with a former reporting subject, which violated the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure obligations.
An insider familiar with the matter confirmed that the individual in question is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who, following the end of his independent presidential campaign in August, now supports former President Donald J. Trump. Trump has appointed Kennedy to his transition team in the event of a victory in November.
After reviewing Nuzzi's work, New York Magazine found no inaccuracies or signs of bias. Nevertheless, the magazine insists on a thorough review by an independent third party. Nuzzi herself stated in a statement to the New York Times that "some communication between myself and a former reporting subject had taken on personal dimensions." She emphasized that the relationship was never physical, but should have been disclosed earlier to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. She deeply regrets this and apologizes to her colleagues.
A representative of Kennedy noted that Kennedy had only met Nuzzi once for an interview, which led to a critical article.
The matter was first reported by the media newsletter Status. Nuzzi has been reporting for New York Magazine since 2017 and has made a name for herself with incisively written, deeply researched political contributions. She also had a guest appearance in the TV series "Billions" and recently released the documentary series "Working Capital" with Bloomberg.
In November 2023, she wrote a profile of Kennedy and the potential of his campaign to upend the presidential race. In a March interview with Frank Bruni of the New York Times, she referred to the 2024 election as "a three-man race" and pointed out that the established press hesitated to treat Kennedy as a serious candidate to avoid criticism for giving a platform to an "anti-vaxxer."
Her most recent contribution was an interview with Trump at Mar-a-Lago in early September. This article was updated on Thursday evening with a note on the statement from New York Magazine. Modern Financial Markets Data
