The tech giant Nvidia will soon replace Intel in the prestigious Dow Jones Industrial Average. This significant decision highlights the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence and advanced computing. The Santa Clara-based company has seen its stock value increase sevenfold over the past two years, an impressive growth attributed to its leading role in AI technology. A key success was the development of the Blackwell GPU architecture, described by founder and CEO Jensen Huang as "a processor for the generative AI era." Recently, Nvidia's influence was also recognized in the media and entertainment industry. Huang received a lifetime achievement award at the 76th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards. In his recorded acceptance speech, he emphasized that AI "is fundamentally reshaping computing and will transform how stories are told, produced, and experienced." Intel, which spent 25 years in the Dow, has faced some challenges in recent years. The stocks fell by 54% in 2024. The company, founded in 1968, was once known for developing memory chips before it shifted focus to processors during the PC boom. Founded in 1993, Nvidia was on the brink of collapse after a failed deal with game manufacturer Sega, but it quickly recovered through the success of the RIVA 128 and cemented its position as a leading provider in computer graphics. In addition to Nvidia, the paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams will also be included in the Dow Industrial Average, while the company Vistra will be added to the Dow Jones Utility Average.
