New Dimension of Parking: Mercedes-Benz Optimizes PARKTRONIC System

Mercedes-Benz has further developed its active parking assistance system with PARKTRONIC technology to make parking faster, simpler, and more comfortable. With this enhancement, vehicles can now park automatically at speeds of up to 4 km/h, significantly reducing the effort and time required for parking in tight spaces. The parking process is initiated with a digital button on the display, which shows the progress of parking. Owners of vehicles equipped with a 360° camera can choose different views to assist with the parking process. The improved parking assistant is standard in several models of the brand, such as the E-Class, S-Class, as well as the EQS, EQE, and Maybach versions with a parking package that includes a reversing camera. The system identifies suitable parking spaces at speeds below 35 km/h, indicated by a blue "P" symbol on the driver display, and requires only a 50 cm clearance at both ends. Once a suitable parking space is detected, the driver is prompted to engage reverse gear to start the automatic parking sequence. For perpendicular parking spaces, there is a choice between forward and reverse parking. Safety is paramount. Sensors monitor the surroundings for potential hazards, such as passing vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians, and can issue warnings and even initiate emergency braking if necessary to prevent accidents. This safety feature is active during both automated and manual parking. In September 2024, Mercedes-Benz plans an upgrade for models with an automated driving system that will allow them to drive autonomously on German highways at speeds of up to 95 km/h. This update, expected to be certified by the end of 2024, will be offered free of charge for vehicles with the appropriate technology, raising the previous speed limit of 60 km/h.
