During the inauguration in the Capitol Rotunda, Musk sat in a row with other technology giants like Sundar Pichai of Google and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta. This prominent seating arrangement highlighted the closeness between Musk and Trump, reinforced by a warm handshake with Trump's younger son Barron and a generous financial contribution to support Trump's campaign. However, this close connection led to concerns about a burgeoning oligarchy of tech billionaires in the U.S., as noted by Joe Biden. Interestingly, Trump has tasked Musk with working on a government project to improve efficiency, aiming for significant cost reductions for the federal administration, though Musk acknowledged that the target of $2 trillion might be challenging. Since the election, Musk has been a regular guest at Trump's resort in Palm Beach, Florida, although there are frictions with some Trump allies, particularly regarding support for visas that bring skilled foreign workers to the U.S. This divide is also reflected in tensions with Republicans after Musk helped block a bipartisan funding proposal.
