The Liverpool Football Club has paid tribute to the fan Philip Dooley, who died in a traffic accident in Bergamo on Tuesday morning. Dooley, 51 years old, had traveled to Italy to watch his team’s Champions League match against AC Milan. The city of Bergamo is located about an hour north of Milan, the venue for the match. Merseyside Police confirmed that they are assisting the Italian authorities in investigating the accident. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of our fan Philip Dooley, who passed away this morning in a traffic accident in Bergamo," said a club statement on Tuesday evening. "Philip was a lifelong Liverpool fan who had traveled to Italy to see today’s Champions League match against AC Milan. Our staff in Milan are working with the local police and the consulate and continue to support other fans affected by this devastating incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Philip’s family, friends, and fellow fans during this extremely difficult time. Rest in peace, Philip." Arne Slots' team will begin their Champions League campaign against Milan on Tuesday, just three days after their perfect record in the Premier League was ended by the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
