The well-known American donut manufacturer Krispy Kreme is currently facing the effects of a cyberattack that has significantly impacted its online operations in parts of the country. The company warned that this incident could have substantial effects on the business. On November 29, Krispy Kreme was informed about 'unauthorized activities' in parts of its IT systems. In response, immediate measures were taken to contain and rectify the issue. However, this security breach has led to operational disruptions, especially in the area of online orders. Despite the cyberattack, physical stores in the USA and 35 other countries remain open. Krispy Kreme operates both through its own branches and through supermarkets. The company, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, announced that preparations to restore online services are underway. The incident, which may have longer-term operational impacts, remains a challenge. Krispy Kreme, which went public again in 2021 after being acquired by the European investment group JAB Holding in 2016, has recently expanded its distribution channels in the US through a partnership with McDonald's.
