Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry plans to expand the scope of anti-dumping duties. The aim is to cover Chinese steel and other products imported through third countries. This information comes from an official ministry representative.
The ministry is considering approaching the Ministry of Finance before the end of this month. This takes place at a time when all government agencies are submitting their requests for tariff changes for the upcoming fiscal year. If the proposal is approved, the measure would affect all import routes, thereby thwarting previous attempts to introduce steel from China via other countries.
The move comes in response to a significant increase in Chinese steel exports due to declining domestic demand. Many countries have implemented trade measures against the world's largest steel producer to prevent potential dumping during the crisis. Japan's largest steel producer, Nippon Steel, along with other local companies, has urged the government to take action against Chinese steel imports. Modern Financial Markets Data
