Green Light for Trailblazing Data Center in London

The strategic development commission of the Newham Council has set the course for a groundbreaking project: a sustainable urban hyperscale data center worth £750 million is being established in Canning Town, London. Three prominent investors are involved: Legal & General, Goldacre, and the specialized development partner sineQN. Together, they aim to further strengthen London's role as a global center for technological innovation. The consortium's expertise in digital infrastructure proves indispensable for the realization of this independent project. David Bloom, founder and CEO of Goldacre, emphasizes that the approval is of great importance not only for Newham but also for the entire digital network of London. The ever-growing data volume makes investments like this indispensable. He himself already has over a decade of successful investments in this sector and sees Newham as another jewel in the crown of digital progress. Thanks to intensive consultations with residents and stakeholders, including members of the Newham Council, the project has been comprehensively initiated. The expertise of the RPS Group, which guided the environmental assessment process and provided essential advice on sustainability, air quality, and circular economy, was central. The project is expected to significantly contribute to the local economy, adding millions to Newham's GDP and creating hundreds of jobs in construction and operation. By 2031, Newham is expected to attract an additional 500 companies from growth industries and the data sector. With a planned IT power capacity of 80 MW, the data center will support various applications, including artificial intelligence, from 2027. In close proximity to the London Internet Exchange, it offers a secure and sustainable solution for data-driven companies.
