Sir Keir Starmer is using his trip to Northern Europe to advance forward-thinking projects: In Norway, the Prime Minister announced plans for a green energy agreement to be signed in the spring of 2025. Together with the Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, he plans to harness the potential of carbon capture to stimulate growth and protect the UK from unpredictable energy market prices. The agreement is intended to help the United Kingdom take a leading role in carbon capture and revitalize economic centers. It is seen not only as a strategic move against price fluctuations associated with international tensions such as the invasion of Ukraine but also as a step towards ensuring energy security. "By partnering with Norway, the UK will be able to strengthen its energy independence," emphasized Sir Keir. The trip is also marked by upcoming talks within the framework of the Joint Expeditionary Force in Estonia, where defense cooperation is the focus. The first British carbon capture projects have already received the green light, with BP and Equinor confirming significant investments. Another highlight is the collaboration between Vargronn and Flotation Energy in the construction of a floating offshore wind farm. With commissioning planned for 2028, the project aims to supply electricity to about one million households, thus making a significant contribution to green energy generation.
