GE Vernova has secured a significant contract to supply a 9HA.01 gas turbine for a 600-MW power plant on Pulau Seraya Island, Singapore. This milestone was duly celebrated at the impressive groundbreaking ceremony led by the YTL PowerSeraya Group. The new power plant is expected to commence operations by 2027 and will initially run on natural gas, but it has the capability to blend up to 50% hydrogen. This flexibility offers an exciting perspective for future transition to 100% hydrogen usage, thereby supporting global efforts to reduce carbon emissions. To implement the entire project, GE Vernova, POWERCHINA, and SEPCO III have formed a consortium. The contract includes the supply of a STF-A650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and a heat recovery steam generator with three pressure levels and reheating capability, in addition to the gas turbine. The 9HA.01 gas turbine is equipped with GE Vernova's advanced DLN2.6e combustion system, developed under the U.S. Department of Energy program for hydrogen-capable turbines, enabling the combustion of large amounts of hydrogen without the use of diluents. Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO for GE Vernova's Gas Power business in Asia, emphasized: "GE Vernova views hydrogen-based natural gas as a catalyst that can accelerate global efforts to decarbonize power generation. We are pleased that YTL PowerSeraya has chosen our H-Class technology to enable highly efficient power generation that emits less carbon when combined with hydrogen." To support the ongoing commitment to the region, GE Vernova has established a Global Repair Service Solution Centre in Singapore, serving as a worldwide hub for HA repairs and being the first of its kind outside the USA. Additionally, in October 2024, GE Vernova secured a contract with Kansai Electric Power Company to deliver three 7HA.03 gas turbines for the modernization of the Nanko Power Plant in Osaka, Japan.
