The New Zealander Liam Lawson, a promising junior driver at RB, apologized to Sergio Perez after a thrilling race at the Mexican Grand Prix. Although he maintains his determination and aggressive driving style, Lawson admitted to an overheated reaction. In the heat of the moment, Lawson collided with the experienced Perez and subsequently showed him the middle finger during an overtaking maneuver. Despite the incident, neither driver was penalized, but Lawson recognized that the situation could have been avoided and sought to speak with Perez after the race to apologize for his gesture. Lawson, who is considered a potential candidate for Perez’s Red Bull seat, now looks forward and remains committed to his aggressive approach to racing. "I’m here to win," the 22-year-old emphasizes, adding that he is not concerned with making enemies or friends on the track, but with focusing on victory. The rookie, who also came into contact with Williams driver Franco Colapinto in Mexico and previously with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, is determined to learn from his mistakes without dampening his fighting spirit. After replacing Daniel Ricciardo at RB, Lawson secured 16th place in Mexico, directly ahead of Perez.
