The security solution provider Evolv Technologies has come under scrutiny following the discovery of irregularities in its sales practices. As a result, the company announced on Thursday that CEO Peter George has been relieved of his duties. Michael Ellenbogen, currently the head of the innovation department, will assume the position of CEO and President on an interim basis. The exact reasons for George's dismissal remain unclear for now. However, Evolv emphasized that the decision was made without accusations and was the result of months of careful consideration by the management. Along with the announcement of the leadership change, Evolv informed about the ongoing investigation into their sales practices. This led to a warning to shareholders not to fully trust the current financial reports. Initial findings of the investigation suggest that certain sales staff conducted deals under terms that did not comply with standardized contracts. These terms were sometimes not communicated to the accounting department. According to the investigating commission, these unclear business practices could have led to a misrepresentation of revenue amounting to up to six million dollars by the end of June. Evolv assures that they will make all necessary corrections once these incidents are clarified. This recent development is not the first of its kind for Evolv. The company has faced legal issues in the past, including federal investigations into its marketing methods by the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition, investors filed a class-action lawsuit accusing the company of exaggerating the capabilities of its security devices. In the summer, Evolv also attracted attention with a trial run of their portable weapon scanners in the New York City Subway. This was met with criticism from civil rights groups and raised questions about effectiveness. According to the latest police data, no passengers with firearms were detected, but there were over 100 false alarms within a month.
