Everton achieved a historic victory in the Women's Super League (WSL) by collecting points against Manchester City for the first time. Thanks to first-half goals from Lucy Hope and Honoka Hayashi, Everton secured an important win that lifts them four points above the relegation zone. Everton now stands ninth in the table with nine points and two wins from ten games. Manchester City, led by Gareth Taylor, missed the chance to close the gap to leaders Chelsea, who are ahead by six points. The first goal of the match was scored by Lucy Hope in the 31st minute when she headed in a corner from Sara Holmgaard. Just eight minutes later, Honoka Hayashi extended the lead by taking a cross from Melissa Lawley and shooting the ball from a distance into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Khiara Keating with no chance. Shortly before the end, Mary Fowler was able to reduce the deficit for City with a penalty caused by a foul from Karoline Olesen on Yui Hasegawa. However, they did not achieve the equalizer.
