After the Las Vegas Raiders had a disappointing first week, losing to the Los Angeles Chargers, the wave of criticism was intense. However, instead of ignoring the criticism, Maxx Crosby used it as motivation.
In the fourth quarter, the pessimism seemed justified when the Raiders were trailing the Baltimore Ravens 23-13 after a touchdown run by Derrick Henry. But unlike the defeat against the Chargers, this time the Raiders did not want to fall apart.
“When it mattered, we had a chance last week and didn’t take it,” said cornerback Jack Jones. “We just had to get better.”
The Raiders managed to cut the deficit to seven points, but the defense needed to deliver. Linebacker Robert Spillane learned from past mistakes and was able to crucially deflect a pass from Lamar Jackson, ultimately leading to a punt.
The Raiders' offense came to life—thanks to the collaboration between quarterback Gardner Minshew and receiver Davante Adams—and tied the game with a 70-yard touchdown. In the decisive moments of the game, Crosby showcased his class with a vital sack against Jackson, dashing the Ravens' hopes for a victory.
Crosby distinguished himself with six tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and a deflected pass. This led to a favorable field position for the Raiders, who took the lead with a field goal by Daniel Carlson.
Although the lead was threatened late in the game, a crucial play by Jones prevented a significant gain by the Ravens, ultimately securing the victory. This performance could mark the turning point of the season for the Raiders, who now return to the field with confidence.
Bounce-back moments like this are not new for the Raiders, who achieved two consecutive wins under interim coach Antonio Pierce last year. The recent success against the Ravens shows that the Raiders have maintained this determination.
“I think it’s a testament to the mentality of our team,” said cornerback Nate Hobbs. “It started last year, but it’s just who we are.”
While the Raiders aim to improve to avoid such tough situations, there was every reason to celebrate following the victory. Crosby and defensive tackle Christian Wilkins continued a tradition by celebrating the win with victory cigars.
This optimistic attitude and the displayed resilience of the Raiders promise an exciting continuation of the season—if they can consistently replicate the performance they showed. Modern Financial Markets Data
