Christian Barmore, the outstanding Defensive Tackle of the New England Patriots, was diagnosed with blood clots over the weekend, as the team announced in a statement. The timing of his possible return to the field is uncertain as he is currently being treated at Mass General Brigham. "Our main concern at this moment is Christian's health and well-being," the Patriots stated. "Fortunately, Mass General Brigham offers some of the best healthcare in the world. Although there is currently no timetable for his return, we know that Christian is receiving excellent care and we look forward to his full recovery." The team did not provide further details on the diagnosis. Barmore’s agent Nicole Lynn thanked Patriots trainer Jim Whalen for his role in Barmore's care. Barmore, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Sunday, was drafted in the second round out of Alabama in 2021. The Philadelphia native had a breakout season in 2023, recording 8 ½ sacks and consistently standing out as one of the few bright spots in a struggling team. This offseason, he was rewarded with a four-year, $84 million contract, making him one of the highest-paid Defensive Tackles in the NFL, with over $41 million guaranteed. Barmore was present for the start of the Patriots’ training camp last week, indicating he had passed the team's medical test. However, he missed both Friday and Sunday practice sessions. Patriots Head Coach Jerod Mayo will hold a press conference on Monday morning. In 2019, Star-Patriots Center David Andrews was diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and missed the entire season due to the condition.
