Apple has expressed privacy concerns and accused Meta Platforms of seeking extensive access to its operating software as part of EU initiatives to improve interoperability. This is in the context of the Digital Markets Act (DMA), through which the European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, is developing interoperability regulations. These guidelines are part of a new framework for digital competition aimed at ensuring seamless compatibility between Apple's iOS system and external functions or devices, such as wireless data exchange and wearables. Apple specifically raised concerns that the interoperability rules could allow companies with questionable privacy practices to access sensitive customer data. In this context, Apple explicitly mentioned Meta and highlighted at least 15 requests for access to Apple's technologies. If granted, these could compromise existing privacy measures. The proposals published on Wednesday reflect the broader effort by the EU to curb the dominance of big tech companies and promote fair competition in digital markets. Neither Meta nor the European Commission has officially responded to Apple's allegations so far.
