Cyber Alert following SPD Hack: Plattner Calls for Protection Initiative, Politics Warns of Vigilance
Eulerpool News·
Following the cyberattack on the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) for which Russian military intelligence services are being held responsible, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is warning of a disconcerting threat landscape. Claudia Plattner, President of the BSI, sees the consistent implementation of protective measures as an urgent need for action. She insists on keeping information technology up to date and reaffirms the necessity of comprehensive security strategies.
The cyberattacks are not only directed against political institutions but also strategic economic sectors such as logistics, and aerospace. In this context, the Federal Foreign Office sent a clear diplomatic signal to Moscow by summoning a senior representative of the Russian embassy and suggesting possible consequences.
Konstantin von Notz, domestic policy spokesman for the Greens and Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee, criticizes the current countermeasures as insufficient. He views authoritarian influences as an immediate threat to freedom and advocates for a "more robust" democracy. Von Notz calls for the strengthening of security agencies and a swift implementation of legal and structural reforms to adequately respond to security policy risks.
Roderich Kiesewetter, CDU foreign policy spokesperson, emphasizes the need for increased investments in cybersecurity and criticizes the government's current stance as too lax in the face of threats from Russian cyberattacks. He demands, much like von Notz, the reinforcement of personnel and technical resources to counter hybrid threats. Modern Financial Markets Data
