The Mexican competition authority Cofece has announced that it will penalize the retail company Walmex with a fine of up to 8% of its revenue if it does not comply and continues to engage in certain actions classified as illegal. This determination by the regulator underscores the importance of complying with competition law regulations in Mexico. The announcement follows shortly after Cofece already demanded that Walmex pay a fine of over 93 million pesos – approximately 4.62 million dollars. The reason for this was the company's involvement in a monopolistic practice in dealing with its suppliers. This penalty measure underscores the determination of the Mexican authorities to sanction behaviors detrimental to competition. Regulation and control are currently in strong focus and demonstrate once again that even industry giants are not above the existing rules. The recent actions by Cofece are likely to serve as a warning not only to Walmex but also to other companies, prompting them to review their business practices. ![](https://cdn.eulerpool.com/images/data-analytics/better.jpg)
