Cal-Berkeley hires Nick Rolovich as Offensive Assistant

Nick Rolovich, former head coach of Washington State, who lost his position due to refusing a COVID-19 vaccination, has found a new role as a Senior Offensive Assistant at the University of California (Cal). This news is generating discussion in the world of college football. Rolovich's tenure with the Washington State Huskies resulted in a 1-3 record in the shortened 2020 season and a 4-3 record the following year in 2021. However, after failing to comply with Washington State's vaccination mandates, he had to resign. His claim for a religious exemption was not acknowledged by the university, leading Rolovich to file a lawsuit for wrongful termination, which is currently under legal review. At the University of California, vaccinations are also mandated, though there is the option of a formal written exemption. Before his role with the Washington State Cougars, Rolovich made a name for himself as a coach in Hawaii, where he recorded a 28-27 record from 2016 to 2019 and led the Rainbow Warriors to three bowl games. Most recently, in 2023, he reinforced the coaching staff of the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL. Cal's football team finished the regular season with a 6-6 record, including a 2-6 result in their first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
