  • HIVE Digital Technologies Pursues Ambitious Expansion Plans and Strengthens Its Global Presence in Bitcoin Mining.
  • Sustainable practices and prominent advocates are changing the public image of Bitcoin mining.
The Bitcoin mining industry is experiencing a turning point, marked by significant growth and a change in perception regarding its environmental impact. Scott Melker, host of the podcast 'The Wolf of All Streets,' recently spoke with Frank Holmes, Executive Chairman of HIVE Digital Technologies, about HIVE's ambitious expansion plans and how the mining sector is addressing longstanding criticisms. HIVE Digital Technologies, the first public crypto miner, is expanding rapidly. Melker emphasized the company's growing global presence and noted the increase to six exahashes – a 47 percent rise – with a target of 15 exahashes by the end of 2025. Holmes confirmed that HIVE aims to reach two percent of global production and will hold as many coins as possible, predominantly generated through hydropower, on their balance sheet. The discussion also focused on the ongoing narrative that Bitcoin is environmentally harmful. Holmes dismissed these concerns as outdated and exaggerated and spoke about innovative solutions like using waste heat from the mining process to heat buildings, for example in Montreal and Sweden. Holmes highlighted the influence of major corporate players on the industry's perception, especially through Amazon's purchase of nuclear energy, which silenced former critics. Larry Fink's shift to a Bitcoin advocate also changed the narrative, as he was once considered a leader in the area of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG). With pioneers like HIVE adopting sustainable mining practices, and prominent advocates influencing public opinion, the image of Bitcoin seems to be changing. As Holmes summarized, 'the worst criticism is behind us.'
