The technological world is eagerly anticipating Apple's upcoming quarterly figures, which will be released on Thursday. At the center of attention is Apple's new "Apple Intelligence" platform, which, following its recent launch through software updates on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, could have a significant impact on iPhone sales. The platform is being heavily promoted for the iPhone, although initially, only U.S. English-speaking users can access it.
The only downside is that the technology is currently only compatible with the latest models of the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro series. Owners of older models face the decision of an upgrade, giving Apple and its investors hope for a new sales boost.
According to Bloomberg consensus forecasts, fourth-quarter earnings per share are expected to be $1.59 with revenue of $94.3 billion. For comparison, in the same period last year, earnings per share were $1.46 with revenue of $89.4 billion. iPhone segment sales are expected to rise to $45 billion, while the services sector is expected to grow by 13 percent to $25.2 billion.
Analysts also anticipate a significant increase in the iPad segment, while a slight decline is forecasted in the wearables sector. Additionally, Apple's revenues in China are expected to improve from a decline last year to an increase of 4.7 percent.
Despite these positive prospects, there are concerns about increasing wait times for iPhone orders. Furthermore, TF International Securities recently reported that Apple might cut its orders for the iPhone 16 by about 10 million units, causing investor anxiety. Since Apple no longer discloses specific sales figures, analysts rely on indirect data.
Tim Long from Barclays Equity Research still sees potential for positive surprises in the fourth quarter with late sales of the iPhone 15 and strength in the services area but warns of potential challenges in the upcoming quarter.
