Alstom has achieved a remarkable milestone in the development of the Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin line in Taiwan by delivering the first fully automated Metropolis train. This new 22.8 km medium-capacity metro line will optimize the connection between Taipei and New Taipei, reducing travel time by an impressive 30 minutes. The line will ensure convenient connectivity between the districts of Zhonghe, Shulin, Tucheng, and Xinzhuang. With transfers to four additional lines, commuting in Taipei will be significantly simplified. Within a consortium led by CTCI, Alstom is overseeing a project commissioned by the Department of Rapid Transit Systems' Systemwide E&M Project Office (SEMPO) of the Taipei City Government. The project encompasses two phases: The first phase, signed in 2018, spans 9.5 km with nine stations. The second phase, sealed in 2020, extends the route by 13.3 km and adds 13 more stations. Under this contract, Alstom is supplying 35 Metropolis trains along with advanced technologies such as the Urbalis train control system, SCADA, and platform screen doors. The Metropolis trainsets are manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Taubaté, Brazil, highlighting the company’s significant presence in Taiwan, where it has been active for over 40 years.
