- Jinjiang Group is accused of employing workers under slave-like conditions in a BYD factory.

The Shenzhen-based Jinjiang Group has come under international scrutiny following severe allegations by Brazil's labor authorities: Workers in a factory built for the electric vehicle manufacturer BYD are alleged to have been victims of human trafficking and to have worked under "slave-like conditions." Jinjiang categorically denies these claims and has not yet commented on the human trafficking allegations. Meanwhile, China's Foreign Ministry emphasized that Chinese companies are obligated to operate in compliance with the law and is in communication with Brazil about this issue.
Founded in 2002, Jinjiang is primarily known for its expertise in real estate construction services. The company, led by CEO Ma Jianbin - a graduate of the Sichuan College of Architectural Technology - employs 1,500 people and has an annual revenue of approximately 3 billion Yuan. Jinjiang not only collaborates with BYD but also counts well-known Chinese real estate developers like Vanke, Longfor, and Country Garden among its clients.
Moreover, Jinjiang is actively involved in setting up BYD factories in various Chinese cities, including Changzhou, Yangzhou, and Hefei. The company is recruiting workers for the construction of additional production facilities in Xian and Zhengzhou. International projects also appear to be on the agenda, with job postings in countries such as Hungary, Turkey, and for other language specialists.
However, Jinjiang's workplace safety record is marred by court rulings that required the company to compensate workers in five accident-related disputes between 2018 and 2022. Additionally, it faced fines in 2023 and 2024 for violations of safety regulations.
